The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me is when my father and stepmother spent thousands and thousands of dollars, hundreds of hours in court, and a countless number of headaches on me to be able to live with them instead of my mother where I was failing school and my personal life was even worse.

My dad lost the first court custody battle against my mother, which is no surprise since the woman almost always wins the first time a custody battle takes place. Two years after the first one, my dad took my mother to court once again and after two years I was allowed to live with my dad and step-mom, but the battle lasted about ten years since he and my mother never stopped going to court until I turned 18.
