The act of kindness I received is not really receiving but giving. When I was at Heritage College, during orientation I was told about all the ways to earn points and things. But one caught my attention. At graduation the person with the most community service hours would receive an award. Normally I never cared whether I got something like that. But for some reason I wanted that award and I wanted bad. So as school started, and as I went through my program, I went to career services and took it upon myself to take over the majority of the events that were coming into the school. Not only did I take on a big responsibility, but I took on representing the school for myself and other students.
I took events in nursing homes to help give a sense of touch that the elderly do not get in a place such as that. I volunteered at a school every year for teacher appreciation week to show thanks for teachers and what they do for their job. I have done work at hospitals during nurse appreciation week. I have done so many events. I still do some of the same ones every year just because they are so much fun and I meet so many interesting people.
I always get THANK YOU cards which always makes me happy, because I know that people really appreciate what I do, taking the time out of my day to come and help them.
I did win that award, and I think it means more to me than any degree that I have – along with what I am working on now. I show it off. I am extremely proud of what I have done and what I’m still doing. Hopefully I will still get to do more because I enjoy what I do so much.
