When the May 3rd 1999 tornado hit, it destroyed a lot of homes and businesses. My friend and I had gotten together and pulled his red wagon all through our neighborhood going door to door asking for donations for those who needed it. We didn't seek publicity or recognition for what we were doing, our only thought was to help those who had lost everything.

In two days we had covered our neighborhood and had collected around 6 trash bags full of food, batteries, toys, diapers, and many other items. I remember one man giving us batteries and looking straight into our faces and telling us we had earned our wings. It is my most cherished memory and was the only appreciation I needed.
