Just Two Days a Week

I have always struggled in life. I’ve dealt with weight problems, health problems, a broken marriage, depression, and trouble making it from one month to another financially. But three years ago, something happened that has really made a difference in my life. I was asked, and accepted, a request to deliver hot meals two days a week to the home-confined elderly. This was exactly what I needed. I spent so much time just dwelling on my problems, but my new little job delivering meals two days a week really started changing things.

My focus started changing from my problems to the tremendous struggles these elderly were facing. I started caring for these people, and as I did, I started feeling better about myself. I still am overweight, but I am losing. I still have health problems, and I still have money problems, but I’m happy now. There is no depression and life is fun!

I am so thankful I accepted the offer from the lady who asked me to volunteer and deliver meals to the elderly. I just hope that if someone who is facing some of the same kinds of problems I faced, reads my story they will consider the two days a week therapy that changed my life.

Wow! What a testament for helping others. All the drugs in the world couldn't make that much difference.

I love the statement, "I still have health problems and I still have money problems, but I am happy now." We learn that happiness has nothing to do with our circumstances and everything to do with the state of our heart. When we love and care for others we love life.

This story makes me think of the time I was really blue then I was around someone who had it a whole lot worse than I did. I helped her out a bit and realized that I not only helped her, but I helped myself!
