Adopted Grandparents

When our kids were young, only five and six years old, we moved away from our parents in Oklahoma to Florida. About three years later, an older couple, Carl and Kate Cooper, befriended us and our children. They had kids and grandchildren of their own, but they had moved away just like we had done. Over the years, Kate and Carl became the “hands on” grandparents to our kids that they weren’t able to be to their own. They were always happy to baby-sit our kids. They were able to be there. They would also pick up the kids from Sunday School every Sunday morning. Kate would fix our family the most wonderful meals and just bring them over unexpectedly. Carl Cooper mentioned both our children in their confirmation classes at church. Kate and Carl Cooper truly embraced us and our kids as their own. Carl has since died and Kate has moved away to live with her sister, but we will always hold them in our hearts. Our lives have been truly enriched by their presence in our lives. Thank you for showing us that family has no boundaries when your heart is free to love.

What a wonderful example. Kate and Carl didn't sit around and complain that they could not be around their grandchildren; they just went out and found someone elses grandchildren to love.

Ya know, it takes a village to raise a kid, and it also takes a village to raise grandparents! What a win-win-win situation, for the "grandparents", the parents and the kids. This is a lesson about the word 'family', with or without blood ties!
